Jimmy Donaldson, famously known as MrBeast, welcomed 2025 with a heartwarming announcement. On January 1, the popular YouTuber revealed his engagement to longtime girlfriend Thea Booysen.
Proposal Highlights and Festive Timing
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, MrBeast posted a series of photos capturing the proposal moment. He humorously captioned it, “Ya boy did a thing.”
Among the flood of congratulatory comments, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty chimed in with, “Wohooo Congratulations ❤️❤️.”
In an interview with People, Booysen shared that the proposal took place on Christmas Day at their home, surrounded by their families. “My family flew in from South Africa for Christmas, and we planned to celebrate at our house. While we were opening gifts, Jimmy asked me to close my eyes for a surprise,” she explained.
MrBeast added, “I dropped a large box to make noise before handing her the actual present—a ring. Then, I went down on one knee and proposed.”
Booysen opened her eyes, overjoyed, and immediately said yes. “It was an amazing moment for me,” she said.
A Private and Meaningful Proposal
Despite his reputation for grand stunts and extravagant challenges, MrBeast wanted this special moment to remain private. “My friends thought I’d do something big, like propose during the Super Bowl, but I wanted it to be the opposite—something intimate and personal,” he shared.
MrBeast also made sure to include Booysen’s family in the celebration, knowing how much she values her loved ones. “It was the perfect occasion since her family was already in town for Christmas,” he said.
How They Met
The couple’s story began in 2022 when MrBeast visited South Africa. During the trip, he attended a dinner with a mutual friend who invited Booysen to join them.
Recalling their first meeting, Booysen said, “I was surprised by how down-to-earth and intelligent he was. I thought YouTubers were all about a persona, but he proved me wrong. He’s genuinely a nice guy.”
Their shared passion for learning sparked a deep conversation about science, YouTube, and much more, forming the foundation of their relationship.
The couple later made their first public appearance together at the Kids’ Choice Awards in April 2022, confirming their relationship to fans.
