Abu Dhabi is aggressively moving towards electric mobility with the announcement of installing 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points on 400 strategic sites in the emirate. The deployment, which will drastically increase the EV infrastructure, is part of the UAE’s larger clean energy and sustainable transport vision.

The new stations will be installed in collaboration with international EV solutions provider Volts UAE, who specialize in their high-speed charging technology and simple interface. The network will comprise standard and ultra-fast chargers to suit a variety of EV models and consumer requirements. Chargers will be installed at residential developments, commercial districts, public car parks, and major highways.

The Department of Energy has also announced competitive tariffs for customers: normal AC charging will be Dh29 per session, while DC fast charging prices will begin at Dh55. Frequent customers are also to be provided with subscription-based packages. The program is likely to cut down on range anxiety and spur more EV uptake in the emirate.

The step comes as a 60% jump in Q1 2025 EV registrations alone has put more than 15,000 electric vehicles on Abu Dhabi’s roads. Authorities hope accessible charging facilities will accelerate the country’s green transport goals and establish the capital as a regional EV leader.
