Abu Dhabi’s Correctional Institutions

Abu Dhabi has three main correctional facilities:

  • Al Ain
  • Al Wathba
  • Al Mafraq

These institutions are managed by the Abu Dhabi Police Correctional and Penal Institutions Department.

Visiting Hours

The visiting schedule varies depending on the facility:

  • Al Ain and Al Wathba
    • Morning Visits: Every day except Friday, from 8 AM to 2 PM.
    • Friday Morning Visits: From 8 AM to 12 PM.
    • Evening Visits: Available on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, from 3 PM to 5 PM.
  • Al Mafraq
    • Morning Visits: Friday, Saturday, and Monday, from 8 AM to 2 PM.
    • Friday Morning Visits: From 8 AM to 12 PM.
    • Evening Visits: Available on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, from 3 PM to 5 PM.

Steps to Obtain an Inmate Visit Permit

To visit an inmate, you must first apply for a visit permit through Abu Dhabi’s TAMM website. Here’s what you need to prepare:

Required Documents:

  • Permission from Public Prosecution: Required if the visitor is not a first-degree relative. This document must include details of the inmate and visitor.
  • Original Valid ID or Passport: The original must be provided if an ID card is unavailable.
  • Valid Passport: Essential for the application.

Permit Application Process:

  • Apply via the TAMM website.
  • The process typically takes about 25 minutes.
  • Cost: Free of charge.

Specific Requirements for Visitors

  1. First-Time Visits by Immediate Family Members:
    • Mother: Must provide the inmate’s birth certificate or original family book.
    • Wife: Needs the original marriage contract or family book.
  2. Relatives Beyond First-Degree or Friends:
    • Must submit Public Prosecution approval for the visit.
    • These visits are only allowed on Sundays.
  3. Embassy Staff and Lawyers:
    • Must show proof of their role, such as accreditation from the embassy or legal representation documents.

Additional Notes

  • All visitors must strictly follow the approved visiting hours set by the Directorate of Punitive and Correctional Institutions.
  • Keep up to date with any changes in visiting schedules or procedures by checking official channels.
